Using Rapid Rewards Points

The most frequent use of Rapid Rewards Points is for free airfare on Southwest. Unlike some other airlines, there is no set number of points needed for travel. Instead, the number of points require for a free airline ticket depends on “destination, time, day of travel, demand, fare class, point redemption rate, and other factors and is subject to change,” according to Southwest Airlines.

To give you an idea of the value of the points, here are the redemption values on several flights (keep in mind that these can change daily):

From to Estimated Points
Dallas Los Angeles 22,074
New York City Los Angeles 29,250
New York City Chicago 19,890
New York City Chicago 19,890

You can also use points for rental cars, hotels, gift cards and other rewards. Here the points are typically worth 1 cent (e.g., $100 Best Western travel card costs 10,000 points).

  • I am trying to take advantage of the on line advertisement above which states that that the annual fee for the Southwest Rapis rewards card is $39.00. When you go to fill out application it says $69.00. I called customer service at 800-955-9296 and they said that was an error and the sites are being updates butt his site is not yet updated. I think I should get the advertised rate of the annual fee of $39.00 as otherwise this would be false advertising. Can you please return my email and tell if you are willing to abide by your advertised rate of the annual fee of $39.00 for the Southwest Rapid rewads Card which says you will get 20,000 bonus points after first use.
    Thank you-

I have been member since 2009. I have purchasedd many flights from ABQ to Austin orSAT and I have no account number and I have never had a free or even a discounted flight. Why? MLB

My poinsts were sent to an account that Southwest said belonged to another person. I tried to get my points and flights for months. I finally gave up, there is no one home at Chase or Southwest, they blame each other. If they cannot handle points, what would happen if I had a major problem.

    Unhappy!!!!!!!
