Editorial Review

The Avant Credit Card earns a high rating as compared to other cards geared towards those with poor credit. This rating stems from the card’s relatively low annual fee (as low as $0) and high potential credit limit (as high as $1,000). The regular APR can be very high, however, so the card is best suited for those who pay their balance in full each month.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Annual fee as low as $0
  • Can pre-qualify without hurting credit score
  • Reports to all 3 credit bureaus
  • Credit limit up to $1,000

Cons

  • High regular APR
  • Annual fee as high as $59

Who the card is best for

The Avant Credit Card is best for those with no credit, limited credit or bad credit. It’s one of our highest rated cards for bad credit because of its relatively low fees and high credit limit potential. It does, however, charge a high APR, so it’s best for those who will pay off their balances in full each month.

Alternatives

There are several good alternatives. For example, for unsecured credit cards not requiring a security deposit, the Indigo Platinum Mastercard also offers an annual fee as low as $0. Its maximum credit line, however, is $300.

There are also a number of secured credit cards that charge no annual fee and even offer cash back rewards or tools to help build credit. Two that we like are the Capital One Platinum Secured and the Chime Credit Builder Visa® Secured Credit Card.

Approval Odds

Credit card companies consider a number of factors when evaluating an application. These factors may include income, debt, existing credit cards and, of course, the applicant's credit score.

While credit card issuers do not publish the criteria for approval, we collect publicly available data on credit scores for those who have been either approved or denied for a credit card. Keep in mind that we cannot verify this information and an issuer's credit score requirements can change over time.
