Our Take
How Does the U.S. Platinum Compare?
The 0% introductory rate for a whopping 20 billing cycles is one of the longest, if not the longest, 0% introductory APRs available today. If you’re looking to make a major purchase or pay down your debt, this is a generous amount of time to pay it off without incurring any interest at all. You also get $600 in cell phone protection when you use your card to pay your monthly bill. However, other than that, this card doesn’t offer any rewards and is a pretty no-frills credit card.
Who is the U.S. Platinum best for?
Anyone looking to either pay down their other credit card balances (although this card does have a balance transfer fee) or make a major purchase will appreciate this card’s generous 0% APR offer. If you’re into rewards or cash back though, you might want to look elsewhere.
Who would do better with a different card?
If you’re into rewards or cash back, you’ll want to seek out a different card. Other than the cell phone protection benefit, this card is a strictly no-frills card, perfect for paying down debt but not much else.
The Citi Double Cash Credit Card also offers a generous 0% APR period of 18 months for balance transfers. You also get 2% cash back on all purchases, 1% when you make the purchase and 1% when you pay the bill. If you want to pay down debt and still earn some cash back on purchases, this card may work well for you.
The Chase Freedom Unlimited® offers an introductory 0% APR for 15 months and combines that with excellent cash back rewards, so you’ll want to keep the card even after the 0% rate has expired.
Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card also has a decent 0% introductory offer of 15 months as well as a $200 sign up bonus and no annual fee.
What Credit Score is Required to Get the U.S. Platinum
Based on data we’ve collected from public forums, a credit score of 700 or higher is ideal. Keep in mind that credit card issuers consider more than just your credit score when evaluating a credit card application.
